Depart London St Pancras on Eurostar for Paris. Transfer to Hotel Chantilly Le Relais d’Aumale, Chantilly, for seven nights. Welcome and introductory lecture.
Morning: Fontainebleau (chateau and gardens built for François I from 1528). Afternoon: Vaux-le-Vicomte (one of France’s most notable 17th century chateaux).
Whole day excursion to Versailles: palace (public state rooms and private royal apartments), Grand Trianon, Petit Trianon, Le Nôtre gardens.
Maisons-Laffitte (17th century chateau designed by Mansard), Saint-Germain-en-Laye (Archaeological Museum and fine Sainte-Chapelle) and Malmaison (refashioned by Napoleon and Josephine).
Whole day excursion to Paris: Vincennes (chateau constructed in 14th century by Charles V) followed by the Louvre (concentrating on French paintings).
Morning: Compiègne (royal palace built for Louis XV and restored by Napoleon). Afternoon: Pierrefonds (14th century palace restored by Viollet-le-Duc).
Morning: Ecouen (16th century chateau of Montmorency family, Museum of Renaissance). Afternoon: Musée Condé in the Chateau de Chantilly (private collection of masterpieces by Raphael, Poussin, Ingres and Dürer).
Transfer to Paris for Eurostar to London St Pancras.

FITNESS / PRACTICALITIES
Although this tour is not expected to be particularly strenuous, participants must be prepared for spending a moderate amount of time walking and standing, including over uneven surfaces and in the gardens and grounds of the chateaux.
For customers who wish to make their own travel arrangements, ACE is pleased to be able to offer a reduction of £60.
