TOUR DIRECTOR QUOTE
“Christmas is, in many ways, a particularly good time to visit Florence, the world-renowned city of the Renaissance. A time to see it anew; as it is lit by a myriad of delicate Christmas decorations along its narrow streets, with the great Christmas tree outside the Cathedral, and Crib scenes – that quintessential element of an Italian Christmas – in every church and home. It is an opportunity to rediscover Florence, to see and understand where this great flowering of art that we call the Renaissance came from. As Florentines shop for Christmas gifts, we are reminded of the importance of commerce and trade in this city, long before the Medici bankers created their circle of young artists, patronising amongst others the young Michelangelo. Whilst everyone looks for that last-minute gift or tasty morsel for the table, we hope to enjoy the Uffizi in relatively uncrowded conditions.”
Please note that most of this tour is conducted on foot, so participants must have a good level of fitness and be prepared for a significant amount of walking at reasonable speed, and standing for moderate periods of time in galleries. Much of the walking will be over flat ground, but the Christmas Day walk up to San Miniato will be more challenging. Participants are welcome to opt out of this walk or not partake in the full walk, should they prefer.
