Tour assembles 1500 at the Francis Hotel, Bath, for four nights. Welcome and introduction followed by lecture: Mozart’s early years. Evening performance at the Assembly Rooms featuring La Nuova Musica with David Bates (conductor), Rachel Podger (violin) and Alec Frank-Gemmill (horn): Mozart Symphony No 1 in E flat major, K 16, Violin Concerto No 3 in G major, K 216, Horn Concerto No 4 in E flat major, K 495, Symphony No 29 in A major, K 201.
Morning visit to the Holburne Museum followed by a free afternoon with option to visit the Herschel Museum. Evening performance at the Assembly Rooms featuring the Nash Ensemble: Mozart String Quintet No 1 in B flat major, K 174; Tchaikovsky String Sextet in D minor ‘Souvenir de Florence’, Op 70; Dvořák Piano Quintet in A major, Op 81.
Morning lecture: Mozart’s later years, followed by free time. Afternoon performance at the Assembly Rooms featuring Rachel Podger (violin) and Christopher Glynn (fortepiano): Mozart Sonata in C major, K 303, Sonata in B flat major (newly completed, arr. Jones), Sonata for violin and piano in E minor, K 304, Sonata in G major (newly completed, arr. Jones), Sonata in A major (newly completed, arr. Jones). Afternoon: optional visit to the Herschel Museum. Evening performance at the Assembly Rooms featuring Stile Antico: ‘A Garden of Delights’ – unaccompanied choral works by Byrd, Josquin, Monteverdi, Palestrina, Praetorius and lesser-known composers, with a special performance of Shakespeare’s The Phoenix and the Turtle set to music by Huw Watkins.
Morning lecture: A closer look at Mozart’s String Quartet in E flat followed by guided tour of Bath Abbey. Lunchtime performance at the Assembly Rooms featuring Sacconi Quartet: Mozart String Quartet in E flat major, K 428; Ravel String Quartet in F major. Evening recital at the Assembly Rooms featuring Lucy Crowe (soprano) and Anna Tilbrook (piano): ‘Female Portraits’ - songs by Schubert, Felix Mendelssohn, Fanny Mendelssohn, Clara Schumann, R Strauss, Britten, Debussy, Madeleine Dring, Cole Porter and Hoagy Carmichael.
Tour disperses after breakfast.

FITNESS / PRACTICALITIES
This tour is not expected to be particularly strenuous, however please note that the majority of our visits, including getting to and from the Assembly Rooms, will be made on foot and the terrain can sometimes be cobbled and hilly. Our hotel is approximately 400m (around fifteen minutes on foot) from the Assembly Rooms. Participants should feel comfortable with this and meet ACE’s usual fitness requirements (see our booking terms and conditions for more details).
Cost of £1375 includes: accommodation based on sharing a classic twin or double bedded room, performances as described (subject to final programme details), breakfast, dinner with water & coffee, excursions & admissions, gratuities.
Not included: travel insurance, comfort double room for single use supplement £160.
