Itinerary

Day

1

Assemble 1500 at the Alverton Hotel, Truro for four nights. Introductory lecture. Evening: private boat trip to Falmouth.Assemble 1500 at the Alverton Hotel, Truro for four nights. Introductory lecture. Evening: private boat trip to Falmouth.

2

Morning lecture en route: St Ives as an Artistic Community and its Signi cance. Newlyn: orientation walking tour, Art Gallery (former Art School) and St Peter’s Church (painted reredos by Martin Travers and sculpture by the Rev Allan Wyon). Continue to Penzance: walking tour and visit to Penlee House Gallery & Museum. Continue to St Hilary’s Church near Marazion and Porth- en-Alls, Prussia Cove (Philip Tilden, 1910–14).

3

Whole day excursion to St Ives: orientation walking tour, Porthmeor Studios (private visit to artists’ studios), Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden, the Leach Pottery, garden at Eagle’s Nest at Zennor (home of Patrick Heron).

4

Morning lecture: Crysede and Cresta – Modern Block Printed Textiles in Cornwall and Beyond. Visits to the Royal Cornwall Museum (modern pottery, Crysede printed textiles of the 1920s), Truro Cathedral, Cornwall County Hall (1963–66, F K Hicklin) and private visits in the area.

5

St Ladoca’s, Ladock (Morris & Company glass); church of St Protus & St Hyacinth, Blisland (extensive work by F C Eden from the 1880s to 1930s). Tour disperses 1200 at Bodmin Parkway station, followed by 1245 at the hotel and 1310 at Truro station.
