The second in our series of lectures by Christopher Wellington introduces two prominent figures from the cultural and intellectual life of nineteenth century Italy, Antonio Rosmini and Alessandro Manzoni. Rosmini was held in such high regard by Manzoni that he considered him the only contemporary Italian author worth reading. Manzoni's own influence was such that Giuseppe Verdi composed Messa da Requiem in his honour.
