Itinerary

Day

1

Tour assembles 1200 at the Worcester Whitehouse Hotel for four nights. Afternoon festival concert at Huntingdon Hall: David Hurley English song recital. Evening concert in Worcester Cathedral: Elgar Great is the Lord; Britten Four Sea Interludes from Peter Grimes; Tippett A Child of Our Time.

Day

2

Morning lecture followed by guided tour of Worcester. Afternoon festival concert at Huntingdon Hall: Worcester Girl Choristers under Christopher Allsop (director). Afternoon lecture followed by evening concert in Worcester Cathedral: Mendelssohn St Paul.

Day

3

Morning lecture followed by festival concert in Worcester Baptist Church: Opus Anglicanum The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. Afternoon excursion into Malvern Hills with visits to Lower Broadheath (Elgar’s birthplace) and Little Malvern (Elgar family graves at St Wulstan’s Church). Evening concert in Worcester Cathedral with Wayne Marshall (organ): William Lloyd Webber Aurora; Poulenc Organ Concerto; Saint-Saëns Symphony No 3 Organ..

Day

4

Morning lecture and guided tour of Pershore Abbey (Anglo Saxon establishment). Afternoon concert in Worcester Cathedral with the Three Cathedral Choirs: Handel Ode for St Cecilia’s Day; Purcell Hail Bright Cecilia. Evening concert in Worcester Cathedral with Martyn Brabbins (conductor): Elgar The Dream of Gerontius.
