Itinerary

Day

1

Depart London Heathrow 0905 on Austrian Airlines, arriving Vienna Airport 1225. Transfer to Hotel Johann Strauss for four nights. Afternoon: introductory lecture followed by orientation walking tour including Karlsplatz, Ringstrasse, St Stephen’s Cathedral (exterior) and Graben.

Day

2

Morning: Kunsthistorisches Museum taking in Theater an der Wien and Secession Building (exterior) en route; Ho urg Palace (Imperial Treasury). Afternoon lecture: Vienna Opera followed by evening performance at the Vienna State Opera.

Day

3

Morning: Karlskirche (outstanding Baroque church) and Lower Belvedere Palace (18th century marble hall and gallery). Afternoon: Upper Belvedere Palace (including the world’s largest collection of Gustav Klimt) and Museum of Military History. Evening lecture: Vienna 1900.

Day

4

Morning: Garden Palais Liechtenstein, Museum of Applied Arts and St Stephen’s Cathedral. Afternoon: Leopold Museum (modern collection of Austrian art).

Day

5

Morning: Austrian National Library (founded by the Habsburgs) and Academy of Fine Arts. Depart Vienna 1715, arriving London Heathrow 1840.
