Depart Heathrow 1025 on British Airways, arriving Milan Linate 1325. Transfer to Grand Hotel de la Ville for six nights. Evening introductory lecture.
Morning: guided tour of ancient organs in San Sepolcro and Santa Cristina with private recitals. Continue to San Giovanni for tour of library and Benedictine complex. Afternoon: visits to Parmesan cheese and Parma ham factories and 15th century Castello Torrechiara.
Morning excursions to Le Roncole for Verdi’s birthplace and San Michele Church and Villa Verdi in Sant’Agata. Continue to Busseto for Casa Barezzi Museum, Renata Tebaldi Museum and Culatello di Zibello (traditional Culatello ham cellar). Evening opera at Teatro Giuseppe Verdi, Busseto: Un Giorno di Regno.
Whole day excursion to Cremona for visits to violinmaker’s workshop with demonstration, Museo del Violino (with instruments by Stradivari, Amati and Guarneri), 12th century Cathedral, Romanesque Baptistery and Piazza del Comune.
Morning lecture followed by guided walking tour of Parma including visits to Saint Paul’s Chamber and Toscanini’s birthplace museum. Evening opera at Teatro Farnese: Le Trouvère.
Morning lecture followed by guided tour of Parma Baptistery, Cathedral and Opera Museum. Free afternoon. Evening opera at Teatro Regio di Parma: Attila.
