Depart London Heathrow 0920 on British Airways, arriving St Petersburg 1435. Transfer to Hotel Angleterre for eight nights.
Visits in St Petersburg: Bronze Horseman, Menshikov Palace, Fabergé Museum and Yusupov Palace.
Morning: first tour of the Hermitage (concentrating on Rastrelli’s Winter Palace). Afternoon: Peter and Paul Fortress and Cathedral (birthplace of St Petersburg), Log Cabin of Peter the Great, St Isaac’s Cathedral.
Morning: Gatchina Palace and park (including Birch Log Pavilion – weather permitting). Afternoon: St Petersburg Stieglitz State Academy of Art & Design and Smolny Convent. Free evening.
Morning: Charles Cameron’s palace at Pavlovsk (English park and garden buildings). Afternoon: Rastrelli’s Rococo Catherine Palace (including the recreated Amber Room).
Peterhof: Grand Palace and famous fountain gardens, Tsarina’s and Olga’s Pavilions (weather permitting).
Morning: Anichkov Palace and Grand Duke Vladimir’s Palace (subject to confirmation). Afternoon: State Russian Museum in the Mikhailovsky Palace and Church of the Saviour on Spilled Blood.
Morning: second visit to the Hermitage (concentrating on Old Masters followed by free time to view works by the Impressionists). Afternoon: Alexander Nevsky Monastery complex (site of the graves of Dostoevsky, Tchaikovsky, Mussorgsky and other great 19th century writers and composers).
Morning: Stroganov Palace, boat trip on St Petersburg Canals (subject to confirmation), Chesma Church (time permitting). Depart St Petersburg 1550, arriving Heathrow 1725.
