Depart London Heathrow 1100 on British Airways, arriving Vienna 1420. Transfer to Hotel Mailberger Hof, Vienna, for five nights. Evening performance at the Musikverein featuring the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra with Semyon Bychkov (conductor) and Kirill Gerstein (piano): Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No 1 in B flat minor, Op 23, ‘Manfred’ Symphony in B minor, Op 58.
Morning lecture followed by orientation walk in Vienna: Mozarthaus, St Stephen’s Cathedral and Imperial Crypt (Habsburg tombs). Free time followed by evening performance at Vienna State Opera featuring Simon Keenlyside (baritone) & Thomas Adès (piano) – solo recital (programme to be confirmed).
Morning lecture followed by excursion to the Beethoven Museum, Heiligenstadt. Free time followed by late afternoon visit to Vienna Naschmarkt (including Secession Building) and evening performance at the Theater an der Wien: Spontini La vestale.
Morning: guided tour of the Musikverein followed by the Haus der Musik (Mahler room). Free afternoon with option to visit the Upper Belvedere Palace (world’s largest collection of works by Klimt), and independent dinner. Evening performance at Vienna State Opera: Tchaikovsky Eugene Onegin.
Morning lecture followed by visit to the Kunsthistoriches Musem. Free afternoon. Evening performance at the Konzerthaus featuring the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra with Denis Kozhukhin (piano) and Robert Trevino (conductor): Liszt Piano Concerto No 1 in E flat major, S 124; Mahler Symphony No 5.
Some free time. Depart Vienna 1510, arriving Heathrow 1645.
