Itinerary

Day

1

Tour assembles 1600 at Newcastle railway station and 1700 at Beaumont Hotel, Hexham, for three nights. Evening drinks reception and lecture.

Day

2

Arbeia (Roman fort), Chesters (fort, well-preserved bath-house, sculptures and inscriptions), Carrawburgh (Roman fort), 3rd century Temple of Mithras, Brunton Turret (built by men of the 20th Legion).

Day

3

Housesteads (museum, commandant’s house, head-quarters, well-preserved latrines), Vindolanda (on-going excavations, museum with writing tablets).

Day

4

Roman camp at Corbridge (military granaries, museum, Lion of Corbridge), Hexham Abbey (Roman crypt). Tour disperses 1500 at Newcastle railway station (1400 at hotel).
