Depart London to Berlin. Transfer to Hotel for six nights. Orientation walk and welcome lecture.
Excursion to the Old National Gallery. Afternoon: Bode Museum (Renaissance and Baroque sculpture collections).
Christmas Eve City tour of Berlin including: Reichstag, Brandenburg Gate, British Embassy, Unter den Linden, East Side Gallery, Oberbaumbrücke (landmark bridge connecting districts formerly separated by the Berlin Wall), Museum Island, Checkpoint Charlie, the Gendarmenmarkt (Berlin’s main Christmas Market), Holocaust Memorial, Potsdamer Platz, Neue Nationalgalerie, Berlin Philharmonic, Gedächtniskirche (Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church), Schloss Charlottenburg and Schloss Bellevue. Lecture: Old Master Paintings in the Gemäldegalerie followed by celebratory dinner in a local restaurant.
Christmas Day Guided visits in the Kulturforum. Morning: Italian and Spanish Old Masters. Afternoon: early Flemish and German Masters, and 17th century Dutch and Flemish art. Celebratory Christmas dinner in the hotel.
Excursion to Grunewald: forest and lakeside walk, Jagdschloss Grunewald and Hunting Lodge (works by Lucas Cranach the Elder). Lunch at a restaurant in the Grunewald. Afternoon: Reichstag building. Free evening.
Excursion to Schloss Charlottenburg. Afternoon: Berggruen Museum (20th century art including Picasso) and the Bröhan-Museum (Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Jugendstil furniture, glass, porcelain and pictures).
