Depart London Heathrow 1215 on British Airways, arriving Athens 1755. Transfer to Hotel Herodion, Athens, for seven nights.
Morning: Arch of Hadrian, Temple of Olympian Zeus, Roman Agora (with Tower of the Winds), Library of Hadrian and Ancient Agora (including Temple of Hephaestus and Stoa of Attalos). Afternoon: short optional visit to Kerameikos cemetery or free time. Evening talk: Athenian Religion followed by free evening.
Morning excursion to Eleusis (site of the Eleusinian Mysteries). Afternoon: National Archaeological Museum. Evening talk: The Byzantine Church.
Morning: Theatre of Dionysus and Acropolis. Afternoon: Acropolis Museum. Evening talk: Greek Theatre.
Christmas Eve Visits to archaeological sites at Marathon and Brauron (exteriors), followed by Sounion (exterior of temple) and Thorikos. Christmas Eve dinner followed by optional midnight liturgy at an Orthodox Church.
Christmas Day Morning: optional service at an Orthodox church followed by walking tour of Byzantine and Orthodox churches of Athens and other monuments situated in the old heart of Athens, known as the Pláka (exteriors). Visits to Syntagma Square and Olympic Stadium followed by Byzantine churches of Agia Aikaterini and Agios Nikolaos Rangavas (exteriors). Celebratory Christmas lunch followed by free afternoon.
By coach to Flisvos Marina (on the coast) to board boat for day cruise to the Saronic Islands (Hydra, Poros and Aegina) with buffet lunch on board. Free evening.
Morning excursion through Attica countryside and short visit to Benaki Museum. Depart Athens 1355, arriving Heathrow 1600.
