Depart London Heathrow for Berlin. Visit Einstein Tower, Potsdam (by Erich Mendelsohn). Transfer to Weimar for three nights.
Morning lecture followed by short architectural walking tour of central Weimar. Visit former Bauhaus Building (including restored office of Walter Gropius), Walter Gropius monument and new Bauhaus Museum (opening for the centenary year).
Whole day excursion to Erfurt and Jena: Margarete Reichardt Haus (former weaving workshop and museum), private visit to Walter Gropius’s Haus Auerbach (with guided tour by owner) and architectural walking tour of Jena including buildings by Ernst Neufert and Ernst Abbe Mausoleum (by van der Velde).
Transfer to Chemnitz via Gera: Haus Schulenburg (by van de Velde) and Museum of Applied Arts. Afternoon in Chemnitz: Gunzenhauser Museum (Expressionist paintings), Chemnitz Public Baths (by Fred Otto). Overnight stay in Chemnitz.
Walking tour of Chemnitz including exterior of Schocken department store (by Erich Mendelsohn). Transfer to Dessau for visits to Bauhaus buildings, Masters’ Houses, Kornhaus Restaurant and Törten housing estate (by Walter Gropius). Overnight stay in Dessau.
Transfer to Berlin via Mendelsohn’s Einstein Tower (exterior) and Mies van der Rohe Lemke House, Berlin 1932-33. Depart Berlin for Heathrow.
