Depart London Heathrow 1100 on British Airways, arriving Pisa 1415. Transfer to Florence for seven nights at Grand Hotel Cavour. Welcome and introduction.
Morning lecture followed by Church and museum of Santa Croce (frescoes by Giotto and works by Cimabue, Donatello and Brunelleschi). Afternoon: Uffizi (Sienese and Florentine paintings).
Whole day excursion to Siena: Jacopo della Quercia’s Fonte Gaia, Palazzo Pubblico (Museo Civico and fresco cycles), Pinacoteca Nazionale (early Sienese painting and sculpture). Afternoon: Duomo (frescoes in the Piccolomini Library, Cathedral Baptistery and Museo dell’Opera del Duomo housing Duccio’s Maestà). Free evening.
Morning lecture followed by Duomo and Dominican Church of Santa Maria Novella (Masaccio’s Trinity and frescoes by Ghiralandaio and Uccello). Afternoon: Santa Maria del Carmine and Brancacci Chapel (frescoes of The Life of St Peter) followed by Santa Trinità (frescoes by Ghirlandaio).
Morning lecture followed by Orsanmichele, Bargello National Museum (Florentine sculpture) and Cathedral Baptistery. Afternoon: Galleria dell’Accademia (Michelangelo’s David and important collection of Tuscan paintings). Free evening.
Morning: San Lorenzo (Medici family’s parish church, commissioned from Brunelleschi), Cappelle Medicee (Michelangelo’s Sacristy containing Mannerist tombs). Afternoon: option of free time or second visit to the Uffizi with Tour Director.
Morning: Palazzo Medici Riccardi (Medici family’s private chapel), Dominican Church of San Marco (frescoes by Ghirlandaio and Fra Angelico) and Brunelleschi’s Ospedale degli Innocenti (exterior). Afternoon: Palazzo Pitti.
Depart Pisa 1510, arriving Heathrow 1630.
