Itinerary

Day

1

Tour assembles 0830 at London Waterloo for transfer to Calais. Continue to Ieper (Ypres) and check in to Albion Hotel for two nights. Afternoon: walking tour of Ieper and visit the In Flanders’ Fields Museum. Evening introductory lecture: The Development of the British Army during the First World War.

2

Whole day excursion to the Ypres Salient (1914–15): Ploegsteert Wood, Bayernwald Wood, Hill 60, Saint Charles de Potyze French Cemetery, Saint Julien Canadian Memorial, Langemark German Cemetery. Evening: Menin Gate Last Post Ceremony.

3

Morning lecture: Casualties and the Medical System during the First World War. Whole day excursion to Ypres Salient (1917): Spanbroekmolen Crater, Messines Ridge, Irish Peace Tower, Polygon Wood and Tyne Cot. Transfer to Mercure Amiens Cathedrale Hotel for three nights.

4

Whole day excursion to the Somme (1916): Lochnagar Crater, Ulster Tower, Newfoundland Park, Devonshire Trench, Delville Wood, Thiepval Memorial. Free evening.

5

Whole day excursion to the Somme (1918): Villers Bretonneux, Australian Corps Memorial Park, Mont Saint-Quentin, Bellicourt Tunnel, American Somme Cemetery.

Day

6

Morning lecture: The Armistice 1918 and Beyond. Free morning in Amiens. Afternoon: Transfer to Calais for afternoon departure, arriving London Waterloo 1930.
