Depart Heathrow 1255, arriving Berlin 1550. Transfer to Park Inn by Radisson Berlin Alexanderplatz Hotel for five nights. Evening introductory lecture: Der Untergang – The Downfall of Berlin, 1945.
Morning: site of the Führerbunker, Reichstag (visit to roof terrace and Norman Foster’s dome). Afternoon: Karlshorst for German-Russian Museum followed by Soviet Memorial in Treptower Park.
Morning: Bernauerstrasse (last authentic stretch of the Berlin Wall), Mauer Museum, Checkpoint Charlie and Asisi Panorama. Afternoon: Gesundbrunnen for Berlin Unterwelten tour of Cold War nuclear shelters. Evening lecture: The Nuclear Arms Race.
Morning: Tränenpalast (former border checkpoint) and former Stasi Headquarters. Afternoon: Hohenschönhausen (former Stasi Prison). Free evening.
DDR Museum followed by social and cultural tour of East Berlin (exploring lives, work, home and social activities of ordinary citizens). Evening lecture: The End of the Cold War followed by dinner at the top of the Fernsehturm (TV Tower).
Some free time. Depart Berlin 1435, arriving Heathrow 1540.
